NEW YORK (PIX11) --- New York City could see wind gusts over 30 mph on Saturday, leading the National Weather Service to issue a red flag warning.

The warning means there is a high risk of fire spreading or starting due to high winds, according to the NWS. The warning is in effect for the New York area until 7 p.m.

"It does not necessarily mean there is a fire, but conditions will be very dry and windy. If a fire is present, it can become extreme," the NWS posted on X.

The forecast calls for wind gusts from 10 mph to 15 mph and up to 31 mph. The temperatures will be in the high 60s with mostly dry conditions.

The weather is affecting some Diwali celebrations in New Jersey. Officials warned Edison residents not to use fireworks during the festivities on Saturday.
