NEW DELHI:

Jamia Millia Islamia

(JMI), a Central University, will observe a half-day closure until 2:30 PM on January 22, 2024, as approved by the Officiating Vice-Chancellor in alignment with the Government of India's directive.
This decision extends to the University, its maintained institutions, centres, offices, and Jamia schools. Notably, scheduled examinations and meetings will proceed as planned during this period.
The notice issued by Mohd. Hadis Lari, Deputy Registrar (Admn), JMI, reads: "The Officiating Vice-Chancellor of JMI, considering the Government of India's directive (vide Office Memorandum F.No. 12/7/2023-JCA, Government of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Dept. of Personnel & Training), has approved the closure of the University, its maintained institutions, centres, offices, and Jamia schools until 2:30 PM on January 22, 2024. Despite no official announcement on school closures in Delhi, neighbouring states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have opted for school closures. The decision to close schools in various states is prompted by the upcoming

Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha

at Ayodhya. This historic event, including the inauguration ceremony of the Ram Mandir, has led several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Goa, to declare

school holidays

. This ensures that the public can participate and collectively commemorate this momentous occasion.
It's worth emphasizing that the closure is a response to the Government's guidelines, and this adjustment in schedule aims to facilitate the participation of the Jamia Millia Islamia community in observing and honouring the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha.
