Queens man attempted to drown his two children in Connecticut: police

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut (PIX11) – A Queens man allegedly tried to drown his own children in West Haven, C.T. on Saturday, according to police.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. in the area of Ocean and Dawson avenues, per West Haven police. An officer saw a parked Nissan SUV on the beach, and as he approached the car, he could hear screaming coming from the water, according to authorities.

He saw a man, identified as Romney Desronvil, and two small children in the water, per police. The officer got into the water and Desronvil allegedly drifted further away from him, according to authorities.

Desronvil allegedly yelled at the officer to "stay back," per police. Other officers, along with the West Shore Fire Department, then arrived at the scene, according to authorities.

The officer who initially arrived at the scene was able to grab the two children and bring them to shore. The other officers helped in performing life-saving measures on the children, per police.

The New Haven Police Department helped West Haven police escort the children to a local hospital. They're both in ICU as of Sunday, according to authorities.

Desronvil, 41, of Queens, is in West Haven police custody and charges are pending.
