NEW DELHI:
Philadelphia 76ers
' center
Joel Embiid
, the reigning NBA MVP, was unable to play in the game against the
Atlanta Hawks
on Wednesday night due to swelling in his left knee. This marks the second consecutive game missed by
Embiid
due to the knee issue and the sixth game in the last eight that he has been sidelined with injuries. Initially, Embiid missed four straight games due to a right ankle injury before briefly returning to play two games, one of which resulted in a 128-92 loss to the New York Knicks, during which he sustained the knee injury.
While the 76ers entered the game against the Hawks with a two-game losing streak, they still maintained the No.
3 spot in the
Eastern Conference
standings. Embiid did not travel with the team to Atlanta but was reported to be working on the court in Philadelphia, with coach
Nick Nurse
stating that he is "progressing good."
When asked about Embiid's potential return for the next game against the Sacramento Kings on Friday, Nurse expressed hope, mentioning that they are taking it "day to day." According to Nurse, the swelling is under control, and Embiid is engaging in "ramp-up" activities as part of his preparation to return.
In addition to Embiid, Philadelphia forward
Robert Covington
also missed the game due to swelling in his left knee, while forward
Tobias Harris
, who had been dealing with an ankle issue, returned after missing one game.
For the Atlanta Hawks, starting center Clint Capela (right Achilles tendon soreness) and small forward De'Andre Hunter (right knee inflammation) were also listed as unavailable for the game.
