Panaji: Keeping the pressure on the state govt, the opposition on Monday said that BJP’s claims about

double engine governance

have been exposed after failing to get an appointment with the Prime Minister to discuss the Mhadei

water sharing dispute

.
The opposition said that while Karnataka has shown initiative, the BJP-led govt in Goa remains lethargic.

“We have been always asking for an all-party delegation to be led to meet the Prime Minister and it was assured to us by the CM, but he can’t get an appointment to meet the PM. It shows the seriousness of the double engine govt,” said opposition leader Yuri Alemao. “When you boast about a double engine sarkar, what stops you from getting the Centre to withdraw the DPR immediately?”
Alemao said that the only way to thwart Karnataka’s plans to divert water from the Mhadei river basin is to notify the Mhadei wildlife sanctuary as a tiger reserve. “It is shocking to see the lethargic attitude of this double engine govt. It shows that they have failed miserably to protect Goa’s interests,” said Alemao.
Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLA Vijai Sardesai also piled on the criticism. “This double engine govt is unable to get an appointment with a Prime Minister from their own party. Chief minister Pramod Sawant has failed to present Goa’s case before the Centre. The house committee that was constituted has held just one meeting. The Prawah meeting has not happened and they want to conduct an inspection during the monsoon. The inspection should have been held during the summer when the real flow of water will be seen,” said Sardesai.
Revolutionary Goans Party MLA Viresh Borkar said that while Karnataka is putting pressure on the Centre to grant all approvals, Goa govt has shown no political will to fight for Goa’s rights.
