NEW YORK (PIX11) – The NYPD is looking to hire traffic enforcement agents, school safety agents and police communications technicians – and you don't need to be a police officer to apply.

A police communication technician is the person on the other end of the line when you call 911. Their responsibilities include getting information from callers about emergencies, reviewing photos, videos, and audio sent to Text to 911 and performing other duties.
The civil service exam registration starts on Nov. 6 and ends on Nov. 26. You'll be required to work evenings and weekends, but you can be paid per shift or get night differential pay on top of your salary.
A traffic enforcement agent helps keep cars moving in their assigned area, issues summonses, reports broken or missing parking meters, writes reports and more.
You can apply for a civil service exam for the traffic enforcement agent position starting on Dec. 10. If you pass the exam and are chosen, you'll have to train at the police academy for 14 weeks – but you'll start getting paid as soon as the first day of training.
A school safety agent will patrol school buildings, check for prohibited items through scanning, help visitors and notify supervisors of emergencies along with other tasks.
The application for the school safety agent civil service exam opens on Jan. 1, 2025.
