QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – The NYPD shut down several sex trafficking operations on Roosevelt Avenue in Queens in a coordinated bust Thursday, police said.
Police could be seen outside a business on Roosevelt Avenue Thursday evening after busting down a door to the building earlier in the day. Police said they found evidence of prostitution and sex trafficking inside.
The NYPD simultaneously executed warrants and shut down at least half a dozen shops in and around Roosevelt Avenue, according to police.
Residents and local businesses have long complained about prostitution happening on Roosevelt Avenue at all hours of the day and night. Mayor Eric Adams received complaints about it from residents at a recent town hall. The mayor was on site to observe the NYPD's operation on Thursday.
“It’s clear what is taking place there. This is really bringing down the quality of life of this community. Anyone who says this is a victimless crime just really needs to see the inhumane conditions,” Adams said.
