NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The MTA and NYPD are cracking down on drivers trying to avoid paying tolls by using fake license plates.
Police seized 192 vehicles during the most recent enforcement operations focused on the Robert F. Kennedy, Willis Avenue, Third Avenue, Broadway, Henry Hudson, and 181st Street bridges.
Police arrested 50 individuals and issued 1,809 summonses. One notable arrest involved a person of interest in a 2005 shooting homicide in Brooklyn.
The male suspect crashed his motorcycle and tried to escape police on foot, according to the NYPD. Police say he had a loaded 9mm handgun at the time of arrest.
This year, law enforcement has seized 1,266 vehicles and have made 276 arrests.
