NEW YORK (PIX11)—Former President Donald Trump is hounding a rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Streets surrounding the Garden will be closed, according to the NYPD.
City officials held a security briefing to inform the public that the NYPD would be present to ensure the safety of protestors and Trump supporters attending the rally.
"New Yorkers are going to see a large police presence around Madison Square Garden for the presidential candidate Trump's rally. There will be many protections that you will see and some that you will not see," Mayor Eric Admas said in a security briefing held Saturday. "Our combined efforts through our intelligence as well as our undercover officers will ensure that the area is safe."
The following streets are expected to be closed for vehicular and pedestrian traffic:
- 33rd Street between Sixth Avenue and Eighth Avenue
- 32nd Street between Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenue
- 31st Street between Sixth Avenue and Eighth Avenue
- 30th Street between Sixth Avenue and Eighth Avenue
- SeventhAvenue will be closed to pedestrians from 34th to 29th Street
The Garden has hosted both Democratic and Republican National Conventions since the 1800s.
