BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- The joyous barks that once echoed through Boris & Horton, a beloved dog cafe in Williamsburg, might soon be silenced. The haven for pups and their owners is facing closure on Feb. 26, leaving a community heartbroken and scrambling to save their cherished hangout.
For Luke Strathmann and his dog Sadie, Boris & Horton wasn't just a place to grab a latte.
"This is one of my favorite spots, and one of Sadie's favorite spots," Strathmann said.
Since the cafe opened last June, it's been a lifeline for him and his energetic four-legged friend.
"I work from home, so this place has been a savior," Strathmann explained. "I get some work done, and Sadie gets her energy out."
Lina Herbert, a new customer with a 7-month-old puppy, shared Strathmann's sentiment. Raising a puppy can be overwhelming, especially for first-time owners.
"To have a puppy, she's only 7 months old, and it's really stressful. It can feel kind of isolating, especially when you don't know how to get all their energy out and you're just getting used to having a dog," Herbert explained.
Sadly, the cafe's doors are set to close due to financial difficulties.
"Our expenses were higher than our revenue," co-founder Coppy Holzman admitted. "Logan and I had to make the difficult decision to shut down."
But there's still hope. Holzman and his team are now trying to raise $250,000 online at the Boris & Horton website to save their two locations, one in the East Village and the other in Williamsburg.
"From those donations," Holzman explained, "we will be able to make some initiatives that will make the business much more profitable." He's asking the community to rewrite the ending together by donating.
The fate of Boris & Horton hangs in the balance. Will the love for four-legged friends overcome financial obstacles? Will the happy barks continue to fill the air, or will this cherished space become a fading memory?
