MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – The Black Lab Cafe, a popular dog-friendly cafe on the Upper West Side, is saying goodbye to the days of allowing dogs to roam free inside the establishment.

In a notice posted on the door of the cafe, the Black Lab Cafe will no longer allow non-service dogs inside the cafe starting on Wednesday, the West Side Rag reported. The cafe was built on the premise of creating a space where New Yorkers can enjoy their furry companion’s company while drinking a cup of coffee.

However, in the notice, the owners have explained they face several challenges in “maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for all our patrons. We understand how much joy your furry friends bring, and this decision wasn’t easy,” the poster read.

Despite the new dog policy, the name of the cafe will remain the same, the West Side Rag reported.

The Black Lab Cafe opened in 2022 and is located at 420 Amsterdam Avenue. The cafe is dog-themed and sells dog treats, as well as cafe goods.
