NMC mandates online counselling for PG Medical admissions
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released new regulations for post-graduate medical admissions, emphasising that admissions will be exclusively conducted through common counselling based on the merit lists of respective exams.
The recently notified "Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023" state that all stages of counselling for post-graduate seats across medical institutions in India will now be managed solely through online modes, administered by the state or central counselling authorities.
STRICT GUIDELINES ON THE ADMISSION PROCESS
In adherence to these regulations, medical colleges are mandated to declare the fees for each course before the counselling process begins. Notably, the NMC has firmly stated that no medical college or institution holds the authority to admit candidates independently.
"All rounds of counselling for all seats will be held in online mode by state or central counselling authority and no medical college/institution will admit any candidate themselves," it said.
"While entering details in the seat matrix, medical colleges shall mention the amount of fees for each course, failing which seat will not be counted," the regulations stated, as reported by PTI.
ENHANCEMENTS IN EXAMINATION METHODOLOGIES
Dr Vijay Oza, President of the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board of the NMC, shed light on the regulatory changes, highlighting modifications in the examination system.
These alterations include the introduction of formative assessments and the inclusion of multiple-choice questions as an option in university examinations. This strategic shift aims to streamline the evaluation process and introduce improved examination methodologies in the field of post-graduate medical education.
