NEW DELHI:

NIA

on Monday gave its consent for jailed Kashmiri leader

Sheikh Abdul Rashid

, popularly known as Engineer

Rashid

, to take oath as a Lok Sabha member.
The consent came a day before a Delhi court is set to pronounce its order on Rashid's plea on Tuesday, paving the way for the newly elected Independent MP from Baramulla in north Kashmir to take oath, likely on July 5.

Rashid, who defeated former J&K CM Omar Abdullah, had moved court seeking interim bail or custody parole, to take oath as an MP and perform his parliamentary functions.
The court had on June 22 deferred the matter, asking NIA to file its response.
