NEW ROCHELLE, Westchester (PIX11) – New Rochelle is accepting applications for its Section 8 waiting list for the first time since 2020, city officials announced Wednesday.
Applications for the waitlist will close on June 17 at 4 p.m. Low-income families in the Section 8 Housing program can offset some of their rent with a voucher, according to city officials.
There are preferences for the city's Section 8 program, which include being a New Rochelle resident, a veteran, being over the age of 62 or disabled, participating in the TBRA program, having young children, and not receiving other federal housing subsidies.
Those who apply will be randomly selected to join the Section 8 program through a lottery.

There are 760 individuals and families in New Rochelle's Section 8 program.
New York City recently reopened applications for its Section 8 Housing program for the first time since 2009. The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) will randomly select 200,000 applicants to put on the program's waiting list, which is no longer accepting applications.
