BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Yet again, another New York City neighborhood has been crowned as one of the world's coolest neighborhoods in the world, according to Time Out Magazine.
Flatbush took the No. 17 spot on the list this year.
“Flatbush has its own gravitational pull. The neighborhood’s bevy of Black-owned businesses, from popular watering holes to restaurants that slap,” read on Time Out’s website. “Flatbush’s tree-lined streets have been home to icons like Joey Bada$$, Busta Rhymes, and Barbra Streisand, and still pull big names, especially to the historic Kings Theatre.”
This is the seventh year a New York City neighborhood has been ranked one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world.
The West Village, Astoria, Bed-Stuy, Chelsea, Ridgewood, and Fort Greene have all made the list in the past.
The name ‘Flatbush’ comes from the Dutch who called it Vlacke Bos, which means a flat area with bushes, according to The Bowery boys.
Flatbush fun fact:
Mario and Luigi are said to hail from Flatbush, according to the Brooklyn Public Library.
