NEET row: Centre asks students, parents for suggestions to reform exam body NTA

7 months ago 21

The expert panel constituted by the central government to look into aspects of reforms of the National Testing Agency (NTA), amid the row over discrepancies in the conduct of the NEET examinations, has sought suggestions from students, parents and other stakeholders.

The public can submit their proposals through a dedicated window available on the MyGov website until July 7.

"The committee is seeking suggestions, views, and ideas from stakeholders, particularly students and parents, from June 27 to July 7, 2024. The suggestions can be submitted using the MyGov platform," the Union Ministry of Education said.

The expert panel, headed by K Radhakrishnan, former chairman of Isro, has been directed by the government to make recommendations regarding reforms in the examination process, improvements in data security protocols, and the structure and functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

While NEET is being probed for several irregularities, including alleged paper leaks and discrepancies in awarding grace marks, the UGC-NET was cancelled after the government found that the “integrity of the exam was compromised.” Two other exams --CSIR-UGC NET and NEET PG--were also cancelled as a preemptive step. All these exams are conducted by the NTA.

The government removed the NTA chief and formed an expert panel for the agency’s overall reform.

The panel also includes former AIIMS Delhi director Randeep Guleria, Central University of Hyderabad Vice-Chancellor BJ Rao, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras K Ramamurthy, PeopleStrong co-founder and Karmayogi Bharat board member Pankaj Bansal, IIT Delhi Dean of Student Affairs Aditya Mittal, and MoE Joint Secretary Govind Jaiswal.
