After they took a 118-112 lead with 1:51 left in their game on Wednesday against the Indiana Pacers, the Los Angeles Lakers seemed headed to their fourth defeat in a row. They gave up seven consecutive points, and a three-point play by Tyrese Haliburton gave Indiana a 119-118 lead with 42 seconds left.
But the Lakers hunkered down and showed the requisite resourcefulness needed to win games against quality opponents. They forced Bennedict Mathurin into an off-balance 3-point attempt that he missed, and Luka Doncic grabbed the rebound and advanced the basketball downcourt.
Doncic missed a runner in the paint with time running down, but LeBron James tapped the ball in and took his hand off the ball just before time expired. It was game, set, match for Los Angeles, as it won 120-119 and moved back into fourth place in the Western Conference with a 44-28 record.
