LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) – Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman announced Thursday he has signed an executive order banning transgender athletes from competing in girls' sports.
Officials will be holding a press conference at 11 a.m. to discuss the ban.
The New York LGBT Network responded to the executive order, saying, "This discriminatory move not only undermines the principles of inclusivity and fairness but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and exclusion."
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association's policy allows all students to participate in sports that align with their gender identity. PIX11 News reached out to the association for comment.
