FORDHAM, Bronx (PIX11) -- Eight people were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in a five-story residential building in the Bronx Tuesday evening.
The fire was reported at 5:05 p.m., according to officials.
25 units responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control around 6:51 p.m.
Nine patients were assessed, all adults, officials confirmed during a press conference. Eight were taken to a local hospital, including a 79-year-old woman in critical but stable condition.
All injuries were due to smoke inhalation, officials said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
