MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) – The MTA is working to make it easier for riders to get to Grand Central Madison.
Transit leaders announced the organization is building a new entrance to the LIRR station at Grand Central Terminal.
The new ADA accessible entrance will go up on Madison Avenue and East 44th Street, with a projected opening in 18 months.
Developers from Boston Properties say they also intend to make the project sustainable by minimizing energy usage and relying on all electric power.
Since the opening of Grand Central Madison, the LIRR has run 40% more trains and has hit its highest ridership numbers since Covid, said MTA chair Janno Lieber.
Following the completion of the entrance on Madison Avenue and East 44th Street, transit leaders say they plan to open another entrance at 415 Madison in the future.
