Mom stabbed to death in NYC was 'sweetest person you'd want to meet,' friend says

LONGWOOD, the Bronx (PIX11) – A mother who was stabbed to death at a Bronx bodega Thursday was the “sweetest person you’d want to meet,” a close friend said.

Gwendolyn Guyton, 29, of the Bronx, was fatally stabbed by another woman inside a bodega at 549 Southern Blvd. in Longwood around 3:15 p.m., according to the NYPD. Witnesses said it was the result of an argument that escalated.

Witnesses said Guyton walked into the bodega and her attacker came in shortly after. Words were exchanged, then a knife came out.

The woman allegedly stabbed Guyton in the neck and torso, police said. Workers inside said they tried to stop the attack. Guyton was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved.

Guyton was the mother to a 10-year-old. A close friend of hers who wished to remain anonymous said Guyton was the “sweetest person you’d want to meet.”

Surveillance video showed the suspect riding away on a bike after allegedly stabbing Guyton to death, according to police.

The suspect hasn’t been arrested, but police know who they are looking for, sources said.
