At least 15 commercial units and some houses were damaged in a massive fire that broke out in a chawl (tenement) in Mumbai early this morning, an official said.

Nobody was injured in the incident that occurred in Govandi's Baiganwadi at around 4 am, the official said.

Around 15 galas (commercial units) on the ground floor and some houses on the first floor were damaged in the fire, the official said.

The residents were also seen putting out the fire with buckets of water.

The fire engulfed electric wiring and installation, household items, AC sheets, plastic sheets, LPG cylinders, wooden planks, and furniture.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier on Friday, more than 20 two-wheelers were damaged in a fire that broke out in an open parking lot in suburban Borivali.
