Man posing as an attorney scams woman out of $16,900 in Manhattan: NYPD

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Police are searching for a man they say scammed a woman on May 29 in Manhattan.

The suspect took $16,900 from the 87-year-old victim, according to the NYPD.

The man posed as an attorney and called the victim, telling her that her grandson was arrested for DUI and that he needed $16,900 to secure his bail, police said.

The two met around Fifth Avenue and East 11th Street, where the victim gave the suspect the money, police said.

The man was seen fleeing southbound on Fifth Avenue. Police describe the man as 6 feet tall and approximately 230 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green baseball hat, white t-shirt, black jeans, and white or black sneakers.
