EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) --- A 67-year-old man was slashed in the face while walking in the East Village early Tuesday morning, police said.
The 24-year-old man attacked the victim near Astor Place and East Eighth Street at around 2:45 a.m., according to the NYPD. The victim was slashed in the face with a knife and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The suspect was apprehended but charges were pending, police said. The weapon was recovered at the scene.
The incident occurred in the area patrolled by the 9th Precinct, where misdemeanor assaults have decreased by 12% this year compared to 2023, according to the NYPD.
