A makeshift "
shikhar
" atop the
Ram temple
's
sanctum sanctorum
was readied by Thursday in a race against time to pre-empt any controversy ahead of the shrine's
consecration
on Jan 22. The "
Gudh mandap
" will be completed by Friday, the
temple trust
said.
The trust had asked the construction firm building the structure to install a makeshift top after theories started floating around about whether it was appropriate to schedule the consecration before the entire temple was ready. The original deadline to finish the superstructure is Dec 31. A kalash and a dhwaja (flag) will be placed over the makeshift "shikhar", the temple authority said.
The idol of Ram, created by Mysore sculptor Arun Yogiraj, was placed in the sanctum sanctorum on Wednesday night. Members of the trust said that when guests arrive for the consecration four days from now, they would see the Ram temple stand in all its glory, as envisaged in the master plan.
