Cities in central Uttar Pradesh became colder than hill stations like Shimla and Dehradun. Kanpur, along with Bikaner in Rajasthan, experienced extreme cold, with a minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius, 4.7 units below normal. Lucknow recorded its coldest day, with a maximum temperature of 12.9 degrees Celsius, 8.1 units below normal. In contrast, Shimla registered a daytime maximum of 13.4 degrees Celsius, highlighting the unusual cold spell in central UP.

from northern hill regions of the country revived on Friday, mercury levels cascaded and a thick layer of fog enveloped many parts of the state, making the cities in central UP colder than hill stations like Shimla and Dehradun.
Along with Bikaner in Rajasthan, Kanpur was the coldest city in the plains of the country where the minimum temperature dropped to 2.4 degrees Celsius, 4.7 units below normal. The day was also chilly with maximum temperature of 11.8 degrees Celsius, 9.7 notches below normal.
The day was the coldest in Lucknow with maximum temperature of 12.9 degrees Celsius, 8.1 units below normal. The minimum recorded in the wee hours was 6.1 degrees Celsius, 1.2 notches below normal. In comparison, the highest mercury level during daytime (maximum temperature) in Shimla was 13.4 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature during night was 3.2 degrees Celsius.
