Long Island woman seriously injured after hit-and-run: police

CENTRAL ISLIP, Suffolk County (PIX11) -- Police are searching for a vehicle in connection to a hit-and-run in Central Islip Saturday night.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. in front of 31 W. Suffolk Ave.

Police say Hillary Day, 66, of Central Islip, was walking on the shoulder of the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle continued heading west without stopping, police say. Day was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.

Investigations into the hit-and-run are ongoing. The vehicle is believed to be a gold-colored sedan, police say.
