ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (PIX11) – A Long Island man was arrested on Monday for allegedly impersonating an undercover police detective, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
On Sunday, a 31-year-old female argued with her boyfriend at a local deli at 53 West Centennial Avenue. Argueta approached the two, verbally identified himself as an undercover detective, and handcuffed the female victim's boyfriend, police said.
The female victim and other bystanders threatened to call police, so Argueta removed the handcuffs and fled the scene, authorities said.
Argueta is charged with criminal impersonation in the second degree and unlawful imprisonment in the second degree.
The defendant was released on an appearance ticket. According to court documents, he is due back in court in October.
