Kiran Rao

has made a comeback to the director's chair with her upcoming comedy-drama

Laapataa Ladies

after a hiatus of 13 years. In a recent interview, Kiran shared an interesting behind-the-scenes detail, revealing that her ex-husband

Aamir Khan

had

auditioned

for

Ravi Kishan

's role in the movie. However, after watching their audition tape, Kiran felt that

Ravi

outshone Aamir in the role.

When asked about Aamir making a special appearance in Laapataa Ladies, Kiran admitted that she and Aamir had a huge discussion on whether he should play Manohar’s character, played by Ravi Kishan. She revealed that Aamir had auditioned for the role and was really good. But when Kiran showed him the audition tape of Ravi Kishan, Aamir agreed that Kishan was better suited for the role.
"I feel he (Kishan) brings a complete surprise to this character because you don’t know what to expect from him. When Aamir is in a role, he sort of sets expectations for his character. Aamir was very in on that decision that Ravi can do this better and perhaps, 'I wouldn't do full justice to it,'" Kiran told The Week.

Kiran

also reflected on her casting choices and deliberately opting for lesser-known faces in the film. She explained, "I was really lucky because Aamir was fully supportive of the idea; he also felt strongly that the story needed to be rooted and authentic, with faces that were fresh enough to be very believable in this rural setting and also not to raise expectations of any kind."

Laapataa Ladies promises to be a refreshing cinematic experience with a blend of seasoned actors and fresh faces. Co-produced by Aamir and Kiran's own production venture, the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan in lead roles.
