In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Lakshya discussed his debut, the long wait for his first film after '
Dostana 2
' was shelved, and what kept him going during this time.
Talking about the shelved project, Lakshya said, “It was a dream. When I came to Bombay, I was 17 in 2015 and I knew I wanted to do films and become a film star. Eventually, things did not pan out. 2018 was the last time I did a TV show. Then, Dostana 2 was offered to me in 2019. I gave rounds of audition. It was a process of 6-months before I cracked the first film. Then I felt, finally films are happening. COVID-19 happened due to I had to leave the film. But thanks to my producers Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta, who always supported me. Then I thought that something would work out eventually. I had a huge self-belief that something or the other will pan out for me.”
Lakshya shared that he remained hopeful despite the setbacks. He maintained his routine of working out, doing voice rehearsals, and scene rehearsals, and was consistently supported by the production team, which helped him stay optimistic. After the news about 'Dostana 2' being shelved, he went to the office where his director, Collin D’Cunha, and Karan Johar assured him that things would eventually work out and to give them some time.
Lakshya mentioned that receiving such assurance from someone of Karan Johar's stature gave him confidence. His mother also believed in him and chanted prayers, which further boosted his self-belief and confidence. Eventually, 'Kill' came to him in 2023, after a wait of 3-4 years
The planned sequel to the 2008 hit romantic comedy 'Dostana' has been surrounded by speculation since it was suddenly shelved in 2021. While the official reason is unclear, there were rumors of a falling out between actor Kartik Aaryan and producer Karan Johar.
'Dostana 2' was supposed to star Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and newcomer Lakshya. Filming had started, with about 30-35 days of shooting completed, before Dharma Productions, Johar's company, announced the project’s suspension.
In the meantime, 'Kill' is being promoted as the most violent film written by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt. It is set to release in theaters on July 5.
