Kerala Woman Goes Into Labour In Bus, Doctors Rush Inside For Delivery

11 months ago 19

A 37-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl on a public bus in Kerala on Wednesday, right outside a hospital.

The woman, Serina, was in labour and was in too much pain to be moved to the hospital, so doctors rushed into the bus and delivered the baby on it.

Serena was travelling with her husband on a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus from Thrissur To kozhikode when she reportedly started experiencing labour pains.

Given her state and the emergency, the bus drove straight to Thrissur's Amala Hospital. The doctors and nurses realised that they would be unable to move the woman into the hospital as she was in an advanced stage of labour, and performed the delivery inside the bus.

The baby was shifted to NICU (Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit) and the woman is under observation.

Passengers were removed from the bus to allow doctors and nurses to tend to the woman. Visuals shared on social media show the bus outside the hospital, with staff rushing in to assist the mother and baby.

"The initiation of labour pain had already begun. At that point, it was impossible for us to shift her to the emergency department. We had to take out the child and cut the umbilical cord there itself. We ensured that the baby and the mother were safe. Currently, both are doing well. It was a different day and a new thing for us," Dr. Yasir Sulaiman of Amala Hospital told news agency ANI.
