Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's aircraft, on which he had flown to Jamaica for a holiday, ran into a maintenance issue before his scheduled departure on January 4.
Another plane was sent to Jamaica to address the unexpected issue with Trudeau's aircraft, according to a CBC report. The issue was discovered during an inspection of the aircraft on January 2.
"We can confirm two Royal Canadian Air Force CC-144 Challengers were in Jamaica supporting transport for the prime minister," a spokesperson for Canada's defence department said, as per Reuters.
This incident marks the second time in recent months that Trudeau has faced aircraft-related setbacks. Previously, in September 2023, a mechanical problem delayed his departure from India following the G20 Summit in New Delhi.
Trudeau, whose Airbus plane experienced a technical snag, was stranded in Delhi for 36 hours after the G20 Summit concluded.
According to the Reuters report, the maintenance team was quick to respond, identifying the issue on Tuesday, ahead of the Canadian Prime Minister's scheduled departure. Prime Minister Trudeau was able to make his journey back to Canada aboard the original plane, avoiding further travel disruptions.
