NEW YORK (PIX11) -- JFK Airport is directing all rideshare passenger pickups at two terminals to a nearby AirTrain stop, officials said.

Beginning Tuesday, May 6, flyers leaving the airport through terminals 5 and 7 will need to head to a lot at AirTrain JFK’s Howard Beach Station to get an Uber, Lyft, Revel or car service, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

"The relocation will significantly reduce traffic congestion on the terminal frontage during the summer travel season as the construction of a whole new JFK reaches its peak," officials said.

Passengers can hop on the AirTran for free to get to the parking lot at the Howard Beach Station. Here is how to get there:

  • Follow the signs to AirTrain JFK;
  • Board the AirTrain to the Howard Beach (green line) station;
  • Get off at the Howard Beach station;
  • Look for the exit to Ride App Pick Up & Long Term Parking;
  • Contact the vehicle’s driver or request the for-hire vehicle ride via the app of the passenger’s choice and meet the vehicle at the assigned, numbered pickup space.

There will be free Wi-fi and customer service representatives to assist with the process.
