NEW DELHI: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United), or JD(U) on Saturday elected Rajya Sabha MP
Sanjay Jha
as the working president of the party.
The decision was taken at the party's national executive meeting that took place in Delhi. The meet was called to also review the current political scenario and preparations for the upcoming Bihar assembly polls due in 2025.
Nitish Kumar, one of the crucial partners in the NDA-ruled Centre, also sought a special financial package from the central government for the state.
After Saturday's meeting, party leader Neeraj Kumar said Nitish Kumar decided to make Sanjay Jha as working president.
"Two important proposals were passed during the party's national executive meeting today. Party's national president CM Nitish Kumar has decided to make Sanjay Jha party's working president. It was also decided that JD(U) will remain with the NDA," he told news agency PTI.
Last year, Nitish Kumar had taken over the reins of his party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. At the national executive of the party in December last year, Nitish Kumar was elected president after the then-incumbent chief Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh stepped down.
Lalan Singh is currently serving as Union minister of fisheries and animal husbandry in the newly formed Modi Cabinet.

contested the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in alliance with the BJP.
Meanwhile, in the run-up to the Bihar assembly elections, former Union minister and BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey expressed his desire for the NDA to form a government with full majority in the state.
Choubey said the BJP "should come to power on its own" as he emphasised taking the allies along. He said that the Chief-Ministerial candidate will be decided post-election and added that the party does not accept any "imports."
Bihar is expected to vote for its 243-member legislative assembly in October 2025.
