NEW YORK (PIX11) – If you're age 65 and older and frequently ride the subway, you may want to consider applying for a reduced-fare MetroCard.
The reduced fare is $1.45, half of the usual $2.90 fare. There are three ways to apply for the reduced fare MetroCard: online, by mail or in person.
Here's how to apply:
Online
You can apply for a reduced fare MetroCard online by clicking here. You'll need to upload a passport-style photo and a copy of an ID to prove your age.
Riders with disabilities will also need proof of their disability for the application.
By mail
You can download an application for a reduced fare MetroCard here. If you have a disability and are applying for a reduced fare, click here for that application.
You'll also need to include a passport-style photo and a copy of an ID to prove your age.

In-person
You can apply for a reduced fare MetroCard at either an MTA Customer Service Center in some subway stations or the Customer Service Center in Lower Manhattan, located at 3 Stone St.
To apply in person, you need to bring two valid IDs, including one with your photo.
