Homeless man accused of stabbing subway rider to death in Coney Island

CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (PIX11) --- A homeless man is accused of stabbing subway rider to death in a Coney Island train station last month, police said.

Zhongqiang Chen, 32, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in connection to the attack on Oct. 29, according to the NYPD.

Chen allegedly stabbed Timothy Rudolph, 54, in the back on the platform in the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station at around 11:20 p.m., police said.

The victim was later found sitting in a train car, bleeding heavily, according to authorities. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

It was unclear what prompted the attack. The supsect's arraignment was pending Friday.

There have been at least eight murders in the city's transit system this year, up 60% from last year, according to NYPD data.
