Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (
IMD
) has extended the
orange alert
over Goa to July 14, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall coupled with strong surface winds across the state.
On July 13 and 14, Goa will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with some areas potentially witnessing extreme
weather
phenomena. The IMD has also issued warnings for intense spells of rainfall accompanied by strong surface winds gusting up to 50 kmph.
After July 14, heavy rainfall is expected to continue at isolated locations over Goa on July 15 and 16.
The IMD cautions that these conditions may include intermittent intense rainfall and wind gusts reaching up to 50 kmph.
A high wave alert has been issued for the coast of North Goa, specifically from Chapora to Panaji (Malim). High waves in the range of 2.6m to 3.3m are forecasted to occur between 2.30pm and 11.30pm on July 13.
In light of the weather conditions, IMD has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea along and off the south Maharashtra-Goa coast during these dates.
