Heavy rain across Tamil Nadu trigger waterlogging in parts of Thoothukudi

NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, and surrounding areas on Sunday. Several neighborhoods experienced significant waterlogging, including Postal Telegram Colony, Rajiv Nagar, Rajagopal Nagar, Bharati Nagar, Amuda Nagar, KVK Nagar, and Asoke Nagar.
This flooding follows moderate to heavy rainfall across Thoothukudi and other districts on Friday, including continuous rain in Trichy.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rain in isolated areas of Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu, as well as Kerala and Lakshadweep.
The IMD stated, "A cyclonic circulation is present over the Andaman Sea and adjoining areas as of Saturday. It is expected to develop into a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal by Sunday (i.e. today). The system will likely intensify and move west-northwest towards the Tamil Nadu coast."

The IMD forecasts light to moderate rain in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Monday. This rain is expected to continue on Tuesday, with heavy rain anticipated in some districts. Heavier rainfall is predicted for Wednesday in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, and Mayiladuthurai districts, along with Karaikal.
