Anushka Sharma’s joy knew no bounds after Virat Kohli lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 title. On Saturday, June 29, India beat South Africa by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados to win the trophy for the second time after MS Dhoni brought them glory back in 2007. India also ended their 11-year-long wait to win an ICC title after the Champions Trophy heist in 2013.

Kohli played a crucial role in the victory after scoring 76 runs off 59 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. After the win, Kohli celebrated the epic win over the Proteas with his teammates. Anushka, who has been married to Kohli since December 2018, lauded his hubby for the achievement. She also had a cheeky wish for her loved one, asking him to “have a glass of sparkling water”.
“AND.... I love this man. @virat.kohli. So grateful to call you my home - now go have a glass of sparkling water for me to celebrate this.”
‘Wanted to lift the cup’
After India won the title, Kohli also announced his retirement from T20Is. He was happy after being able to play the match-winning knock in the summit clash.
"This was my last t20 World Cup, and this is what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel you can't get a run, then things happen. God is great, and I got the job done for the team on the day it mattered,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Wanted to lift the cup, wanted to respect the situation rather than force it. This was an open secret, it's time for the next generation to take over, some amazing players will take the team forward and keep the flag waving high,” Kohli added.
Along with Kohli, Rohit Sharma also decided to retire from T20Is. In the final, India successfully defended their score of 176 after Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah stepped up under pressure.
