Harry Kane Left Watching As Bayern Miss Chance To Seal Bundesliga Title

3 days ago 12

The soccer community often calls Harry Kane one of the unluckiest soccer players in the world. The English striker has been at a high level for many years, which started during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane has not been able to win a major trophy throughout his career so far, which includes his time at Spurs and with the England national team. His move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 led many to believe his trophy drought would end, but the German giants went trophyless last season.

Bayern has not been having a great season under Vincent Kompany, but they are on course to win the Bundesliga title. They have been ahead of Bayer Leverkusen over the last weeks of the league.

Ahead of their game today against RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich needed a win to seal their league title, but without Kane, who was suspended due to accumulated yellow cards. The 'Kane curse' was mentioned again since the striker would not have the opportunity to win the league title on the pitch.

RB Leipzig - Bayern Munich

With Kane watching from the stands, RB Leipzig opened the score in the 11th minute after Michael Olise gave the ball away to Xavi Simons. The midfielder sends a great ball to Benjamin Sesko, who lobs Bayern keeper Jonas Urbig.

In the 39th minute, Lukas Klostermann scores a header in the box to make it 2-0 for the hosts. Bayern Munich were down 2-0 at halftime, and Harry Kane's face told the whole story.

In a span of two minutes, Bayern Munich equalized the game as Eric Dier scored in the 62nd minute and Michael Olise equalized in the 63rd minute. A draw would not officially clinch the title for the Bavarians, but the excitement from the Bayern fans and players led to high belief that a title win is possible.

In the 83rd minute, Leroy Sane gave Kane and the Bayern fans a glimpse of winning their 34th Bundesliga title. His strike led to the players celebrating like crazy in front of the away supporters. Kane celebrated from the stands as the title was being clinched away from home.

Kane went down to the touchline with the rest of the Bayern players on the bench to celebrate the win and the league title. In the 90th minute, the referee gave an additional four minutes.

Once again, the unlucky factor played a role in Kane's career as in the final seconds of the match, RB Leipzig equalized to make it 3-3. A goal from Yussuf Poulsen led to the title celebrations being saved for another day.

Reactions after the 3-3 draw

Despite the dramatic draw and not officially winning the league title, Bayern players know they can win it tomorrow or next week, as the season is almost over. Bayern Munich officially wins the title if they gain a point against Borussia Monchengladbach next week at home or if Bayer Leverkusen drops points tomorrow against Freiburg.

Bayern captain Thomas Muller reacted after the game about the result and getting close to another league title. The German attacking midfielder is playing his final league games with the club as he leaves this summer.

Muller: It feels a bit weird due to the late equalizer. I feel we're champions, but we're not officially champions, so the feeling is in-between."

Vincent Kompany spoke in a post-match press conference and was happy to see his team's reaction after going down 2-0 at halftime.

Kompany: Of course, the last-minute equalizer is something we didn't wish for. Sometimes it's better to have setbacks in order to react. We reacted well after the first half and weren't afraid. That gives me hope for the future. We're close now."

Meanwhile, Joshua Kimmich says with confidence that the league is done as it would take a miracle for Bayer Leverkusen to win it, needing a drastic fall of Bayern Munich with two league games to go.

Kimmich: "We're [already] German champions if we're all honest."
