MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Police continue searching for two suspects who they say shot and killed 16-year-old Clarence Jones in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Jones was shot in the chest around 1:40 a.m. at West 124th Street and Lenox Avenue. He was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.

Police sources say the suspects took off on Razor scooters heading toward 125th Street.

“This was not only tragic, this is absolutely heartbreaking, heart-wrenching,” said Pastor Staci Ramos, a community activist in Harlem.

On Thursday, Ramos was walking on West 124th Street, talking to people about what happened. “We really want to be on scene,” said Ramos. “We want to be involved so we can get some of these things to stop.”

Violence interrupter Kartier Conway of ‘Guns Down, Life Up’ knew the teen’s family.

“His parents were great parents,” said Conway. “His father was really involved in his kid’s life. He was really trying to stop things from happening.”

Conway met with some of Jones’ teachers on Thursday. “They were just saying he was really talented,” said Conway. “And he really had some things in the future to look forward to but now, unfortunately, his life got cut too short.”

New York City Public Schools are providing grief counseling at the teen’s school.

The investigation into his death remains active and ongoing.
