A man from Gurugram faced a huge loss after his Smart TV, worth more than Rs 40k, was left irreparably broken by an Urban Company agent. Akash Jaini claimed that a professional damaged the TV during the installation. A thread on X by Akash’s friend Divyanshu Dembi has now gone viral. Urban Company took note of the incident, but the story did not end there.

It all started when Akash reached out to the Urban Company customer care for a refund of the loss he had incurred. But he was given the assurance of only Rs 10k worth of compensation according to the ‘company policy’. Dissatisfied with the response, Jaini's friend, Divyanshu, took to social media to highlight the issue.

He posted photographs of the damaged TV and shared a conversation with the company, showcasing their acknowledgement of the incident but reluctance to fully compensate for the loss. “Hi @urbancompany_UC my friend @akashjaini had engaged your services recently. Your guy ended up breaking his INR 40K TV irreparably. Now you're telling us that you can only reimburse 10,000. Is this a stupid joke? You better cover the full cost,” read the post.

Take a look:

The story did not end there. As the post gained traction online, Urban Company revisited the matter and proposed to double the compensation to Rs 20k. However, Jaini stood firm, rejecting this offer as well. He demanded full reimbursement for the damage caused, emphasising the need for fair treatment and accountability from the company.

The story took another turn when Akash replied to Divyanshu’s post mentioning that he was contacted by the customer support as well. What they said came as a shock to Akash. “I have call recordings where they have now 3 days later turned around and stated that the service professional would not lie, although he clearly has the greatest motivation to do so and I have a picture of him handling the TV after doing the damage,” read the post. Akash also shared a picture of the agent handling the TV even after it was broken.

This incident has sparked a broader discussion on consumer rights and the responsibilities of service providers, with many urging Jaini to pursue legal action for adequate compensation.
