Grammy Awards 2024: Swifties think Jay-Z pulled off a Kanye West on Taylor Swift before her historic Album of the Year win

11 months ago 16

Pop superstar,

Taylor Swift

became the first artist in Grammy Award history to win

Album of the Year

4 times.
Swift clinched the victory for her pop album 'Midnights', making her the only artist to claim the title four times, beating the likes of music legends like Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.
However, the singer's win seemed to be overshadowed by

Jay-Z

's speech, calling out the Grammys for snubbing his wife,

Beyonce

by never awarding her Album Of The Year.

Early in the show, the rapper was presented with the Dr Dre Global Impact award. While accepting the trophy, he spoke about how he has always wanted the Grammys to recognise the artists that most influence culture.

He looked at Beyoncé and said, “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won album of the year. That doesn’t work.”
He went on to add, "Some of you going to go home tonight and feel like you've been robbed. Some of you may be robbed. Some of you don't belong in the category."

Soon after his speech went viral online, the show concluded with Taylor Swift taking home the top prize of Album Of The Year. With both topics creating a stir on social media,

Swifties

took to their handles to point out that Jay-Z's apparent diss to Swift almost felt like the "Kanye moment came full circle."

Fans noted how the rapper defended his wife Beyonce, but not without apparently running down Swift, who was the front-runner for the top prize. Back in 2009,

Kanye West

shocked everyone when he stopped Taylor mid-way during her

MTV Video Music Awards

, to say, "I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!"

Photos of the infamous moment soon resurfaced online, with many sharing photos of Kanye and Taylor on the VMA stage and writing, "Jay Z had a Kanye moment rightfully standing up for Beyoncé and then Taylor Swift won Album of the Year. Kanye moment came full circle! Ya can’t make this stuff up!"
"Jay Z shaded Taylor. He knew album of the year would go to her and he was bitter. He mad that Taylor outdoes Beyonce in every way," said another.

"Jay Z must have known that Taylor Swift was going to win best album of the year. Iy clearly was a Kanye moment," another said.

A fan recalled, "Jay Z feel like Kanye did when he snatched the mic from Taylor."
Linking the events of the night to that of 2009, another said, "The #Grammys started with Trevor Noah announcing that if Taylor Swift wins AOYT, she will have the most of any artist. So Jay Z was shading Taylor in reference to Bey never winning despite having the most #Grammys & some folks shouldn’t be in the category."

Others slammed the rapper saying, "Love me some Jay Z but dude - that was a weird speech to give when one of your protégés (Kanye) shamed Taylor during one of her 1st award wins because she beat your wife."

However, at the same time, there were others who disagreed that it was a diss at Taylor, but rather at the awards show. A fan noted that while Beyonce has never won Album Of The Year, Taylor has never won Song Of The Year, despite both women scoring multiple hits.

"Guys I don’t think Jay Z was dissing Taylor I think he was dissing the Grammy’s. Just like Taylor has never won SOTY Bey has never won AOTY," read the tweet.
Taylor Swift currently has 52 Grammy nominations, with a total of 14 wins. Beyonce, on the other hand, 88 competitive nominations and 33 wins.
