NEW DELHI: After incessant rains washed out the first day's play of the two-day practice match between India and the Prime Minister's XI in Canberra on Saturday, Shubman Gill engaged in a fun yet fiercely competitive fielding drill along with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
In a video shared by the BCCI on X, Gill and Nayar took on a stump-hitting challenge set up by fielding coach
T Dilip
, creating a mix of lighthearted fun and competitive spirit.
Gill was the first to strike the stump after a few attempts, but it stayed firmly in place. Nayar later hit the mark as well, but the stump refused to move. This prompted Gill to challenge Dilip to take a shot, with Nayar enthusiastically chiming in, "Dikhao, dikhao" (let's see you do it).
As Gill quipped, "MasterChef is cooking," Dilip stepped up and nailed a perfect throw on his very first attempt, dislodging the stump cleanly. His triumphant celebration, complete with a wide smile and animated gestures, was met with cheers as Nayar embraced him, wrapping up the video on a jubilant note.
In the ongoing
Border-Gavaskar Trophy
, India lead the series 1-0 following a record-breaking 295-run victory in Perth.
The second Test, a day-night contest, will be played in Adelaide. The game against the Prime Minister's XI serves as an opportunity for both sides to refine their preparations.
With one of the two scheduled days lost to rain, the match has been reduced to a 50-over-per-side affair, set to take place on Sunday.
