NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Dancers descended on Times Square to promote the start of a new show helping New Yorkers make the most of the city.

The spontaneous music broke out around 2 p.m. on 43rd Street and Broadway, when dancers organized by Bob's Dance Shop joined by some city employees and flooded into a seating area and danced.

The dance comes a day before the launch of a 13-episode series called “The NYC Field Guide: How to Thrive in the Five,” which will offer tips and expert information about how to thrive in New York City.

In the first episode, the flash mobs’ choreographers at Bob’s Dance Shop will explain how to orchestrate a flash mob as Department of Transportation officials discuss pedestrian safety.

In other episodes, the NYPD officials will discuss subway safety, Comedian Roy Wood Jr. will join city officials to discuss restaurants and health safety, and Rat Czar Kathleen Corradi talking about trash.

"This is a show for New Yorkers, about their city, and a lot of New Yorkers are actually featured in the show," said Karen Johnson, Executive Producer and creator of “The NYC Field Guide: How to Thrive in the Five," which premiers Wednesday evening on NYC Life.

The show includes man on the street interviews to gauge New Yorker's opinions, along with expert commentary.

“Whether picking a restaurant or preventing rats, we've got you covered," Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan said of the series. "Hear from the experts — because even the most seasoned New Yorkers appreciate an inside tip."

The show is hosted by Micaéla Birmingham, who danced in Tuesday's flash mob, and produced by NYC Media and Next Millennium Productions.
