For cricket-crazy Kolkata, the possibility of
Team India
scoring a historic win on Saturday at the ICC
T20 World Cup final
meant bonding over the sport at
community screenings
. Stakeholders told us about the frenzy that reverberated through
city restos
and malls, that doubled as India defeated South Africa to bring the trophy home after 17 years.
Special offers for the win
The day called for some customised offers at city pubs and Vanita Bajoria, director, Lord of the Drinks, curated cricket-themed cocktails named Bouncer, Cover Drive and Yorker to make it extra special.
Sean Pereira, GM, Hard Rock Café introduced a 1:1 offer on select cocktails & a 2:1 offer on bottled spirits. Sweety Bol, owner, The Empty Head, had 50% off on food after 7pm, and drinks after 11pm.

Cricket, good food and high footfall
City restos and pubs saw an increase in footfall. “Approximately 250-300 fans showed up and celebrated the victory,” says Sanju Arora, business head, Irish House. Reema Pramanick, CGM, Wafira, said approximately 700-800 people stepped in at peak hours, as the venue echoed with chants
cheering for India.
Cheers to the milestones
What’s cheering for the home team without placards and props? That’s what malls and restos offered the fans to add to the excitement. “We gave guests props and cut-outs to add to the excitement,” says Man Mohan Bagree of South City Mall. Lord of the Drinks on the other hand, celebrated each boundary with DJ announcements while Chapter 2 was decorated with tri-colours.
"We decorated the venue with tricolour balloons. We also had a mascot waving our flag" – Reema Pramanick
