SOUNDVIEW, The Bronx (PIX11) -- Two brothers were stabbed to death in the Bronx early Sunday morning, according to the NYPD.
The wife of one of the brothers told PIX11 News that the siblings were always together and didn't like to go out much. She wants justice but also wants to know why they were murdered in such an atrocious way.
Breaking down in tears, Merly Vasquez cannot make sense of what she describes as a merciless double homicide.
“Why did this happen? I don’t understand why,” said Vasquez in Spanish.
Vasquez woke up Sunday morning to a horrific call about her husband, Leider Guevara Cubas and his brother, Ernesto Hector Guevara stabbed to death outside of 1215 Stratford Avenue in the Bronx.
She said the two brothers came with some friends to this social spot to watch a band perform. Although she doesn’t know the motive behind the fatal attacks, Merly’s dad explains that when they were heading home, one of the friends allegedly witnessed Ernesto Hector in a physical altercation with a group of guys.
His brother, who supposedly was walking ahead of him, turned around to defend him. According to police, 24-year-old Hector Ernesto was knifed in the abdomen and 27-year-old Leider was stabbed in the chest.
Vasquez, who is also a mother, says the pain is unbearable especially not knowing how to tell her 4-year-old Liam that his father is not coming back. Liam and his dad were playing soccer before he went out that night. They were inseparable.
“I can’t believe this, this is impossible, I just can’t believe it,” said Vasquez.
Vasquez said her family has been destroyed, adding that they migrated from Peru two years ago looking for a better quality of life. She describes her husband and brother-in-law as two men devoted to family and very hard workers in the construction industry.
The siblings’ parents live in Peru. A humanitarian visa will be requested for them to come here for a final goodbye.
