NEW YORK (PIX11) — Some 2023 Electric Zoo ticket holders are entitled to refunds after they were turned away when the festival reached capacity and another day was canceled.
Refunds will go to people who bought single or multi-day tickets for Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, the first day of the festival that was canceled, and Sunday, Sept. 3, when some ticketholders were not let into the festival, according to organizers. Festival organizers will contact those eligible directly via email.
The refunds will be doled out by July 19, organizers said.
The electronic dance music festival faced a myriad of problems throughout its three-day spread. The festival was canceled hours before opening its first day due to supply chain issues that delayed the completion of the main stage, according to organizers. On the second day, hundreds of people waited in line for hours but couldn’t get in.
On the final day of the festival, staff prohibited festivalgoers from entering after reaching capacity. It was later revealed that organizers oversold the event by 7,000 tickets.
The festival has since prompted a class action lawsuit against organizers, including Avant Gardner. The suit claims the festival had improper staffing and fell short of the “awe-inspiring spectacle advertised,” court records show.
Crowd control and safety were also issues at the 2023 festival, according to the suit.
