ED starts investigation into Rs 100cr ‘share market’ scam

Panaji: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started investigating the alleged Rs 100 crore ‘share market’ scam in the state under the provisions of the Prevention of

Money Laundering

Act. It has already seized three properties and fixed deposits in banks worth Rs 3 crore.
The ED registered an enforcement case information report (ECIR) against

Myron Rodrigues

and others and has started investigating the scam. It is in the process of issuing a

blue corner notice

against Rodrigues to trace him, as he is said to be in London.
Rodrigues and his wife,

Deepali Parab

, allegedly cheated people, mostly from Salcete, to the tune of over Rs 100 crore by promising lucrative returns on investments in the share market. The

Economic Offence Cell

(EOC) registered the first FIR in the case on Aug 30, 2023.
The crime branch has arrested

Sunita Rodrigues

, ex-wife of Myron, the main accused in the multi-crore investment scam that cheated a large number of investors.

The arrest was made after a thorough investigation revealed that Sunita was actively involved in the fraudulent activities and played a crucial role in the scam. Despite being summoned for questioning, Sunita was evasive and non-cooperative, prompting police to take action.
The investigation revealed that the main accused and his wife cheated investors by promising them high returns on their investments. The accused collected crores of rupees from innocent investors, which they then misappropriated for their personal gain.

The EOC issued a look-out circular (LOC) against seven individuals in connection with their alleged involvement in the

Rs 100 crore scam

. The EOC issued the LOC against Deepali Parab, Sunita Rodrigues, Nolan Lawrence Antao, Joaquim Rosario Pires, Vijay Joil, Navnik Mario Armando Pereira, and Sushant Ghodge to prevent them from fleeing the country and to ensure that they are available for investigation.
The EOC has already issued a LOC and a blue corner notice against Myron.
The EOC has also booked five directors of a real estate company in connection with a case in the scam.
