BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh minister for
social justice
Narayan Singh Kushwaha has a unique advice for
wives and sisters
of
alcoholic men
- get them to
drink at home
so that they eventually quit. Kushwaha termed his suggestion as "practical", and encouraged women to form groups, get involved in a mission for de-addiction, and "run a campaign according to his advice".
"Mother and sisters, if you want your husband not to drink alcohol, first tell him not to drink anywhere in the market. Ask him to bring it (home), have food and drink in front of you," Kushwaha said at the launch of a '
Nasha Mukti Abhiyan
' (deaddiction programme) by social justice department. He went on to explain: "If he drinks in front of you, he will tend to drink less every time ('limit kam hoti jayegi'). 'Dheere dheere band ki kagar par ajayega, use sharam ayegi ki me apni patni aur baccho ke samne sharab pee rahe hoon' (Slowly, he will come to the verge of quitting altogether. He will feel ashamed that he is drinking in front of his wife and children."
The minister asked women to tell their husbands that their children will end up drinking if he continues to do so. “Tell him what will happen to his health.
BHOPAL:
He will quit liquor. It’s practical advice. Women have a great role in deaddiction. Create ‘tolis’ (groups) and take it as a mission,” he advised.
Kushwaha said that the dream of a golden India can be fulfilled only by building a drug-free society.
